Mimmo Scognamiglio Artecontemporanea inaugurerà la quinta mostra della rassegna “Le verità svelate”, dedicata a Raimondo de Sangro Principe di Sansevero, con la personale dell’artista americano James Brown. Le opere dell’artista sarannò esposte contemporaneamente nello spazio espositivo della galleria e nel Museo Cappella Sansevero. Il Museo aprirà uno spazio espositivo posto al termine del suo itinerario di visita, offrendo al pubblico la suggestione delle opere degli artisti contemporanei che lavorano su temi ed ispirazioni affini a quelli che Raimondo de Sangro ha affidato al percorso simbolico ed interiore del suo Tempio.

«Ho scelto il naturale e supernaturale per questo gruppo di lavoro directtamente da ciò che vedo e sento nel Museo Cappella Sansevero. Questa edificio è naturalmente un luogo di grande fascino ed un complimento alla forza ed alla sensibilità umane. Vi è una fine e mirabile selezione dei materiali, una grande combinazione di prodigi geologici. (…) La mia missione è di creare simbolicamente un museo nella galleria mimmo scognamiglio che rifletta i lati chiari e scuri della natura umana. Questo progetto è una diretta risposta al Museo Cappella Sansevero. Proverò a fare la naturale visualizzazione delle emozioni umane una incontro nel posto fine. (…) Mi concentrerò soltanto su un tipo di lavoro per questo spazio. Ho pensato che, poichè il corallo è un elemento attraente e potente nella mitologia e nella storia napoletane userò questa immagine... Già ho usato il corallo in opere che ho fatto a Napoli. Mi sembra appropriato continuare. Nella stanza del “Cristo Velato” c’è la meravigliosa figura del “Corpo senza vita”. Penso che anche il corallo sia un “Corpo senza vita”, così ho usato la connotazione simbolica di questo elemento per fare il lavoro per il museo. (…) Ho scelto “Education” come titolo e tema del grande dipinto per mie personali ragioni. Credo che l’educazione sia un’arte importante ormai persa. Penso che essa sia essenziale per capire e formare una sensibilità per quasi tutto ciò che oggi s’incontra, compresa l'arte contemporanea. Essere educati a pensare equivale ad imparare a vedere. (…) Ho fatto i multipli di ceramica “Scholar Stones” in riferimento al dipinto “Education” e a “L’Educazione” (Francesco Queirolo 1753). (…) Ci sarà un gruppo di dipinti su lino piegato e montato su tela… ne farò molto probabilmente una selezione di 12. Queste rappresenteranno i 6 ritratti dei santi della famiglia de Sangro e poi i 6 Cardinali di casa de Sangro».

James Brown, nato a Los angeles, California, nel 1951, vive e lavora tra New York, Parigi e Oaxaca (Messico).

On Friday 23rd of May Mimmo Scognamiglio artecontemporanea will open the fifth show of the series entitled “Le verità svelate”, dedicated to Raimondo de Sangro Prince of Sansevero, with the solo exhibition of the American artist James Brown. The works of the artist will be presented at the same time in the exhibition space of the gallery and in the Museo Cappella Sansevero. The Museum will open an expositive space at the end of its visit route, offering to the public the suggestion of contemporary artists who work on topics and analogous inspirations to that Raimondo de Sangro entrusted to the symbolic and inner way of its Temple.

«I have chosen the natural and supernatural for this group of work directly from what I see and feel in the Museo Cappella Sansevero. This edifice is naturally a place of great beauty and a compliment to human strength and sensitivity. There is a fine and wonderous selection of materials, a grand combination of geological marvles. (…) My mission is to symbolically create a museum in the Mimmo Scognamiglio gallery which reflects the light and dark sides of human nature. This project is a direct response to the Museo Cappella Sansevero. I will try to make an exhibition in keeping wih the natural display of human emotions one encounters in the fine place. (…) I will concentrate on only one type of work for this space. I thought that since coral is a lovely and powerful element in the neapolitan mythology and history i will use this image… I have already used coral in the works I made in Naples. It seems appropriate to continue. In the room of “Il Cristo Velato” there is the wonderfull figure of a dead veiled Christ (“il Corpo senza vita”). I think coral is also a “ Corpo senza vita” [a body without life], so I have used the symbolic connotation of this element to make the work for the Museum. (…)

I have chosen “Education” as the title and theme of the large painting for my own reasons. I believe education is an important and lost art. I believe education is essential to understand and have a feeling for almost all that we encounter today including contemporary art. To be taught to think is to lern to see. (…) I made the ceramic multiples “Scholar Stones” in reference to the “Educations” painting and the “L’educazione” (Francesco Queirolo 1753. (…) There will be… a group of paintings on folded linen mounted on canvas… I will make a selection of 12 most probably. These will represent the 6 “Ritratti dei santi” [potraits of the Saints] of the de Sangro “famiglia” [family]. Then there are 6 “Cardinali di casa de Sangro”».
