Reduce dal grande successo riscosso all’ultima Biennale di Venezia con l’installazione The key in the hand, la galleria Mimmo Scognamiglio Artecontemporanea è lieta di presentare la prima mostra personale di Chiharu Shiota in una galleria in Italia. Le prime collaborazioni con la galleria risalgono al 2010, con esposizioni in mostre collettive.

“Se sto tessendo un’opera e ciò che ne risulta è qualcosa di brutto, contorto e annodato, è probabile che quello fosse il mio stato d’animo mentre lavoravo.” Le intricate configurazioni diventano un’espressione del proprio stato emotivo: i fili neri che l’artista intreccia sono collegati intuitivamente alle sue stesse emozioni, alla risposta ai rapporti umani.

Chiharu Shiota (Osaka, 1972) è un'artista giapponese meglio nota per la creazione di ambienti monumentali, occupati interamente da fitte trame di fili intrecciati. Costruzioni imponenti ma al contempo delicate e poetiche, in bilico tra l’eterea vacuità suggerita dalla tessitura e l’ingombrante materialità di ciò che vi è sospeso all’interno.

Connotandosi come tracce, ricordi di luoghi e memorie di un vissuto che non c'è più, come ambra fossile i fili cristallizzano oggetti che riconducono alla nostra quotidianità, vestiti, libri, valigie, frammenti di sculture anatomiche. Il potere espressivo emanato si ridefinisce come una “filosofia dell’attimo”.

L’esposizione comprende una raccolta di opere recenti dell'artista, arricchita da disegni, foto e stampe. Nelle opere di Shiota l'impatto visivo ed emozionale è dirompente, e in Follow the line è presente buona parte della gamma dei temi cari all'artista.

Districandosi tra Amore e Morte, attimo presente e memoria, nell’alternanza del rosso e del nero i dipinti e le sculture di Chiharu Shiota suggeriscono come le nostre identità siano anche delle barriere in grado di limitarci e intrappolarci.

After the great success of the last Venice Biennale with the installation “The Key in the Hand”, Mimmo Scognamiglio Artecontemporanea is glad to present the first Italian solo show by Chiharu Shiota. The collaboration with the gallery dates back to 2010, with exhibitions in group shows.

‘If I weave something and it turns out to be ugly, twisted, or knotted, then such must have been my feelings when I was working’. The intricate configurations become expressions of emotional states: the delicate black threads that the artist weaves are intuitively connected to her own feelings and her response to human relationships.

Chiharu Shiota (Osaka, 1972) is a Japanese artist best known for creating monumental environments, occupied entirely by dense textures of woven threads. Impressive structures at the same time delicate and poetic, hovering between the ethereal vacuity suggested by the weaving and the bulky materiality of what it is suspended inside.

Characterised as traces of places and memories of a life that no longer exists, as fossil amber the wires crystallizes objects connected to our everyday life, clothes, books, suitcases, fragments of anatomical sculptures. The emanated expressive power is redefined as a "philosophy of the moment".

The exhibition also includes a collection of drawings and recent works, enriched with sketches and photos. The visual and emotional impact of Shiota’s works is disruptive, and in Follow the line there are the great part of issues dear to the artist.

Extricating between life and death, present moment and memory, in the alternation of red and black, the sculptures and paintings of Chiharu Shiota suggests how our identity might actually become boundaries that limits and entangles us.
