Chiharu Shiota

Nasce a Osaka, in Giappone, nel 1972. Vive e lavora a Berlino.

L’artista è meglio conosciuta per creare degli ambienti monumentali, costituiti interamente da dense texture di fili intrecciati. Strutture suggestive che riescono ad essere allo stesso tempo delicate e poetiche, sempre in bilico tra l'eterea vacuità suggerita dalla tessitura e l'ingombrante materialità di ciò che è sospeso al loro interno.

È stata presente a numerose mostre collettive e personali ospitate in tutto il mondo. Le sue personali includono: Mori Art Museum, Tokyo (2019), K21-Kunstsammlung NRW, Dusseldorf, Germania (2015), Espai de arte contemporani Castelló, Castello, Spain (2014), Smithsonian Institution Arthur M. Sackler Gallery, Washington D.C., USA (2014), The Museum of Art, Koch, Giappone (2013), La Maison Rouge, Parigi, France (2011), The National Museum of Art, Osaka, Giappone e CentrePasquArt, Biel/Bienne, Svizzera (2008).

Tra le collettive si ricordano: Espace Culturel Louis Vuitton, Parigi, Francia (2015), Mori Art Museum, Tokyo, Giappone (2014), Museum of Old and New Art, Tasmania, Australia e Museum on the Seam, Jerusalem, Israele (2013) e inoltre le Bienniali di Venezia (Italia), Sydney (Australia), Kiev (Ucraina) e Yokohama (Giappone).

Born in Osaka, Japan, in 1972. Lives and works in Berlin
The artist is best known for creating monumental environments, occupied entirely by dense textures of woven threads. Impressive structures at the same time delicate and poetic, hovering between the ethereal vacuity suggested by the weaving and the bulky materiality of what it is suspended inside
